This Notre-Dame-de-Lourd was constructed after the 1927 cyclone. The construction decision was taken by reverend Father Eckert in 1925 facing a very huge number of believers in Tamatave, in particular Tanamakoa and Anjoma. However, the first construction was made by 100% wood and also destroyed by march 3th, 1927 cyclone. The church had been repared after that but a new cycone in 1929 which was take off the roof. So it needed to be repared again, and this last one was with metallic framework. Then a very importent maintenance of the church was in 1948-1951 and the roof is changed like concrete slab. Then, later they mount this spire which is you still can see it until nowadays.
